Head shots are incredibly important for your business. They help potential clients and employers get a sense of your personality and who you are. Having a great head shot can make all the difference.
So what should you do to maximize your shoot and get the most of your images? Here are some tips that I give to all my clients to prepare for their appointment.
1) Keep it simple. I usually recommend a maximum 2 to 3 quick outfit changes, to make sure we have enough time to get everything photographed. For men, I recommend one that’s more professional in a jacket and collared shirt, and one or two that are a bit more casual, like jeans and a polo or button up shirt. For women, I recommend a professional suit or dress for the first outfit, and then something more casual such as a nice pair of jeans or dress. I generally recommend more neutral solid colors, but I want your personality to shine thorough, so if you have a “louder” taste in colors, don’t hesitate to bring them. I usually discourage things like band t-shirts or shirts with excessive prints, logos or slogans on them unless they are part of your business aesthetic.
2) Look your best. The night before the shoot, get a good night sleep. It sounds silly, but getting plenty of rest will help you keep your energy up, and it will show in your pictures. Take a shower, style your hair, and do your makeup. We have professional hair and makeup available, if you would like to add that service.
3) Take a deep breath. It’s just pictures. A good attitude results in a relaxed, confident look that will shine through. Take a moment to relax, and remember that you are amazing and look great. I will handle the rest.
4) Know your audience. What do you need the images for? Are they professional images for your resume? Are you trying to get noticed by a casting director or booked for your next gig? I will be sure to help design your shoot so that we target your ideal audience and get you noticed.
After the shoot, you will get an opportunity to go through the images and select your favorites at the studio, and I can set up a digital proofing gallery for you online if you want to take your time making your selection. Once you make your selections, we will tighten the images up. I get rid of skin blemishes (acne, dark spots, anything that isn’t a fixed part of your look), tighten up the exposure, tone, and color, and generally make you look your best. You’ll get a gallery with the high resolution images and a password link so you can download them as needed.
